Inventions

When I was three years old, I found the car seat incredibly uncomfortable. We were getting ready to go on a road trip, and I was desperately searching for a pillow to put behind my head for the ride. I tried pillow after pillow, and when I finally found the best, comfiest one, it kept falling when I'd readjust or get out of the car. Finally I turned to my mother in frustration and cried, "It won't stay!"

Thus, the Booster Buddy was born. At the time, car seats didn't have pillows, so we created a pillow with a strap on the back that came in fun animal shapes, like butterflies and dinosaurs. The Booster Buddy was licensed to Gold Bug and was sold in stores like KMart and Target by the time I was four.

I had the idea for my latest invention, MyFear Zapper, when I was nine years old. This product is a website-based "game" that uses cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques to help children conquer their fears. I have also written a children's book, "Bold Bill & Courageous Cate," sold through Amazon, to help promote the product.

I have spoken at local elementary schools on creativity and inventing, and also filmed a video on Intellectual Property for Northern Kentucky University a few years back. I also produced weekly video Empowering Tips on the MyFear Zapper blog through September 2015.
